Sunny Datong

Tonight I'm geared up for an 8-hour overnight train ride to Datong, in the Shanxi province. The locals describe it 'among the unsung wonders of China's history-soaked heritage'. All I know is it is China's most polluted city, and that's saying something. It is recommended you buy a box of Wet Ones before your visit, just to wipe the grit from your face. But it does have a hanging temple and thousands of Buddhas crammed into the side of a mountain. Back on Sunday by plane.
